Why is the secondary primary for Ohio State in the recruiting class of 2013?
Just look at the names.
Eli Apple (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) leads the way as the third-best cover corner in the nation and is ranked No. 6 overall in the ESPN 150.
Apple, formerly Eli Woodard, is joined by the No. 6 cornerback in the nation in ESPN 150 defensive back Cam Burrows (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) and Gareon Conley (Massillon, Ohio/Washington), another ESPN 150 senior as well as the No. 9 corner in the nation.
There’s no doubt -- basically because he already said it -- that Burrows will press hard for Vonn Bell (Rossville, Ga./Ridgeville) this weekend at the Under Armour All-American Game. The ESPN 150 safety is ranked 61st overall and has the Buckeyes, Tennessee and Alabama in his final three.
With Burrows in his ear and an official visit to Ohio State lined up on Jan. 11, it will be a scarlet and gray start to the new year for Bell.
Should the Buckeyes stop Bell from taking an official visit to Alabama the following weekend, the 2013 secondary class has the chance to become stuff of legend if the rankings translate to the college game.
Even without Bell, this secondary certainly stands out as the best of the 2013 Ohio State class.
