Parris Campbell tears up SPARQ Combine

It wasn’t tough to pick out Parris Campbell Jr. (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) from the masses at the SPARQ Combine in Massillon, Ohio, on Saturday.

That’s because the speedster was blazing up the turf at the Paul L. David Training Facility, posting a laser-timed 4.42 40-yard dash and 92.37 rating to give Ohio State fans something to look forward to when he arrives on campus in 2014.

Not that his recruitment should be something to worry about after he committed on the spot to the Buckeyes last weekend.

“I got the offer that same Sunday from Coach [Urban] Meyer,” Campbell said. “Me and my mom talked about the other offers I had and I said, ‘Mom, if they officially offer me, I’m going to commit.’

“I felt like it was a great school where I could play and show my talents. Coach Meyer kept saying, ‘Remember the coach that was there for your state championship. I was the first to see you play.’ I’ve been Ohio State since I was a toddler. Other schools came. They’re all good schools, but Ohio State is where my heart is.”

Now that he’s an Ohio State pledge, Meyer and Co. are expecting Campbell to be the mouthpiece for the university. In fact, he has already started working ESPN Watch List linebacker and teammate Dante Booker to join him in Columbus, Ohio.

Whether that happens remains to be seen, but Campbell thinks the Buckeyes have a good chance.

“They told me I’ve turned from a recruit to recruiter,” Campbell said. “I’ve been in Dante’s ear all week. I’m pretty sure, I’ll get him.”
