Tyquan Lewis (Tarboro, N.C./Tarboro) came to Ohio State’s Senior Advanced Camp on June 10 hoping to impress Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer and grab a committable offer from the school.
Now, Meyer and Co. will need to impress Lewis’ mom, Tyronda Whitaker.
The 2013 recruit nabbed the scholarship offer he was looking for five weeks ago and will bring along Whitaker to Ohio State’s Friday Night Lights on July 27.
“It’s more about my mom this time,” Lewis said. “I just want to get the education part down and things like that. It’s about getting that part in and really about impressing my mom.”
If Ohio State can do that, it could likely take the lead for the three-star athlete as the Buckeyes look to round out the class of 2013.
The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Lewis is a strong target for Ohio State because he fits the hybrid role of both defensive end and linebacker in 3-4 and 4-3 defenses.
He has Ohio State in his top five along with North Carolina, LSU, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.
Lewis backed up a sophomore season that included eight sacks, with a 63-tackle, 12-sack season as a junior.
