Now, the junior tandem walks home to mountains of mail as the offers continue to pour in. For Jones, it started with an Ohio State offer. He got another one from Indiana and has interest from Arizona State, Cincinnati, Florida, Illinois, Louisville, Michigan State, Tennessee, UCLA, USC, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Not bad for the 6-foot-4, 325-pound offensive tackle who also kicks extra points for the Tarblooders.
“Yeah, it’s getting better,” Jones said with a laugh. “I thank God for giving me the ability to do what I can do. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t know what situation I’d be in.
“It’s a good feeling, but at the end of the day you have to be humble. But it’s an absolutely great feeling. My grandfather puts the mail on the table and leaves them there. He’s telling me to stay focused. I keep them all. I’ll see what I can do next year.”
That’s exactly what Lattimore is doing as well. Before the season, only Toledo had offered him.
Now, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State and USC have offered with Akron, Michigan and West Virginia showing interest.
After a four-touchdown performance against Solon, his mailbox went haywire and hasn’t stopped. It’s kept him humble, however, as the Tarblooders are 4-2 after six weeks and looking to close out the season with a Week 11 appearance.
“I’m just playing football and doing what I love to do,” Lattimore said. “Some people send me mail every day. I never really get a big head. I stay humble. That’s the way I was taught.”
