Juco OLB Sanders will take OSU official

Ohio State’s pursuit of a linebacker has taken the Buckeyes to the junior college level, where the squad is eyeing one of the key members of the national runner-up Butler Community Grizzlies.

Outside linebacker Tommy Sanders of Cordele, Ga. will join the likes of Gareon Conley (Massillon, Ohio/Washington), Mike Mitchell (Plano, Texas), David Dawson (Detroit/Cass Tech) and Donovan Munger (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) on an official visit to Ohio State this weekend .

“I’m looking to meet the coaches and players and see what they have to offer,” said Sanders, who doesn’t have an offer from the Buckeyes just yet. “I’ll be looking at the academics and the community, and how well the program is being supported.”

Sanders had an incredible season at Butler C.C., recording 71 tackles -- 20 for loss -- 8 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and an interception to go along with 12 pass break-ups.

“I’m an aggressive player with a knack for the ball,” Sanders said. “Coming from juco, I’m a great leader. I’m always looking to become a better player.

“I’ve already learned how to work, so I’m more responsible. I’m looking to take it to the next level. Ohio State’s interest means a lot, because they’re a big program. I know they’re appreciative of my talents and the fact I can lead.”

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Sanders already has offers from Baylor, Florida State, Kansas State, Mississippi State, South Florida and Texas A&M.
