Coming off a junior season in which he caught 76 passes for 1,236 yards and 11 touchdowns, returned a punt for a touchdown, and helped his team to a 15-0 record and AAAA state championship, ESPN Watch List wideout Demarre Kitt (Tyrone, Ga./Sandy Creek) has become one of the most sought-after Class of 2014 prospects in the Southeast.
As it stands now, two programs are on top for the 6-foot-1, 185-pound junior.
“Ohio State and Clemson are my top two,” Kitt said.
The success of first-year head coach Urban Meyer at Ohio State has made them the hot name among top recruits at the Rising Seniors program.
“I like the tradition at Ohio State and I like what Urban Meyer has done there taking them 12-0 this year,” Kitt said. “Me, Stanley Williams, DeShaun Watson, Nick Glass, Dante Sawyer, Raekwon McMillan and Milan Richard have all been talking about Ohio State.”
The Tigers have made Kitt a recruiting priority and that has the prominent ACC program running neck and neck with the Buckeyes.
“I like the offense at Clemson, how they are family-oriented and how they went to all my playoff games,” Kitt said.
While Watson (Gainesville, Ga./Gainesville) is committed to Clemson right now, Ohio State is making a push for the talented quarterback as well. The appeal of playing with other prospects from Georgia has become a solid pitch from the undefeated Big Ten program.
“It would be amazing to play with a top quarterback out of Georgia like DeShaun Watson,” Kitt said. “We all like Ohio State right now and we want to stay together.”
A West Coast powerhouse is also heavily on Kitt’s mind at the moment.
“Oregon told me I am going to be their top target at wideout for 2014, so that is a program I really want to look at,” Kitt said.
Just a few months ago, Kitt was committed to the in-state Bulldogs. With more than a year until he can enroll at the school of his choice, Georgia is not out of the mix by any means.
“I am still looking at Georgia hard and they are still in my top five, but other schools are just making a bigger push for me right now,” Kitt said. I still plan to visit them and I plan to look closer at my options over the next year before I make my final decision.”
