The newest scheduled game isn't exactly the one most fans would like to see, but it's definitely a step up from the likes of Eastern Michigan and UMass.
Penn State announced on Tuesday that it scheduled a home game against San Diego State on Sept. 26, 2015. That means it needs just one more nonconference opponent to finalize the 2015 schedule, as it already has Buffalo and Temple on the slate.
The Aztecs have won at least eight games in each of the past three seasons and shouldn't be a complete pushover. They upset Boise State, 21-19, last season to hand the Broncos just their second loss of the season, and they've earned three straight bowl berths.
Brady Hoke also coached San Diego State before jumping to Michigan prior to the 2011 season.
The two teams have never met on the football field so the scheduled game came as a bit of a surprise. PSU is 4-0 all-time against teams from the Mountain West and, potentially, this could be the best game of the nonconference slate ... which admittedly doesn't say much.
