ESPN 150 RB David Williams names top 3

GERMANTOWN, Pa. -- ESPN 150 tailback David Williams said Saturday afternoon he trimmed his list to three schools: Arizona State, Ohio State and South Carolina.

Williams (Philadelphia/Imhotep Charter) isn't sure when he might make a decision, but he said it would likely come near signing day. He wants to see each school on an official visit and then talk a potential commitment over with his family.

The four-star prospect already traveled to Arizona State in September. He said Saturday he scheduled an official visit to South Carolina on Jan. 18, and he'll soon schedule another with the Buckeyes.

"Coach [Steve] Spurrier was actually out here today in the stands," Williams said, shortly after his Imhotep Charter team fell 35-13 to Wyomissing in the semifinals. "I got a great relationship with the coaching staff already, and when I went down there before I was really impressed -- just by the people, how fired up they are.

"It's crazy; they love football down there."

The 6-foot-1, 192-pound senior said he chose those three schools because he felt most comfortable there. He said Arizona State felt like a "mini-Los Angeles," he admired Urban Meyer, and the Gamecocks had a great game-day atmosphere.

Williams was considering Penn State and mulling a possible visit, but the school didn't make the cut. Williams shrugged when asked why he cut the Nittany Lions and just reiterated he felt more comfortable with the other schools.

"I appreciated them recruiting me through the whole process, and I got a lot of respect for them," he said. "It's great what Coach [Bill] O'Brien came and did. I was overwhelmed when I saw the results by the end of the season."

Williams said he'll almost certainly commit to one of those three final schools. He wanted to get more serious about his recruitment following his senior season, which ended Saturday.
