Meet the run-ons: OT Andrew Terlingo

Every weekday, as part of an ongoing series, NittanyNation will take a closer look at a Penn State walk-on.

Vitals: OT Andrew Terlingo, Center Valley (Pa.) Southern Lehigh, 6-foot-5, 290 pounds.

Picked Penn State over: Walk-on invitation from West Virginia, partial scholarships from Div. II schools such as Millersville and Slippery Rock.

Why he picked PSU: He said he actually grew up a Mountaineers fan because his father went there, but he fell in love with Happy Valley before his junior season. The campus feels like home, and he said the deciding factor was probably the coaches.

State of the position: Donovan Smith could be the next great lineman at Penn State, and Adam Gress will likely start opposite Smith at right tackle. Anthony Alosi and Eric Shrive should provide some depth this season -- while incoming freshman Andrew Nelson could take over for Gress once he graduates. PSU could definitely use some quality depth on the outside in future years.

Strengths: He said all the coaches looking at him lauded his pass protection. He shows good hand placement and striking ability, which really helps him stand out.

Weaknesses: He definitely needs to get stronger and more flexible. He can do about 15 reps at 225 pounds, and he said flexibility is his No. 1 issue.

Potential impact: PSU offered him a walk-on invitation over the summer, so the staff has been high on Terlingo for a while. He could see situational time down the line as he becomes more balanced. Terlingo is definitely unique from other OL run-ons because he counts pass blocking as his strength. Usually, at the high school level, most guys say run blocking is their forte.

Quotables: "It was my top school ever since I started getting recruited. I would've loved if the scholarship would've worked out, but I just definitely love the chance to get to play there."

Getting to know Terlingo: Favorite movie(s) is the "Austin Powers" series ... Favorite TV show is "The Office" ... Favorite food is Italian ... Favorite musician is Rhianna ... Dream vacation spot is Alaska for a fishing trip.
