TE Derrick Griffin: 'Options are still open'

ROSENBERG, Texas -- ESPN 150 tight end Derrick Griffin wasn't too busy on Thursday night as he and his Rosenberg (Texas) Terry teammates cruised to a 30-0 win over Bay City (Texas) High School. Griffin, who caught three passes, made them count, as two of them were for touchdowns.

Lining up at receiver for the Rangers, Griffin works hard to stay focused and stay involved for his team, which operates in a run-heavy offense and was playing its third-string quarterback Thursday because of injuries to the first two sustained early in the season.

But when his time comes, Griffin is ready to deliver.

"I know when it's time for me to get the ball, I know what I have to do," he said. "So I don't really [worry] about the passing plays, because when it's that time, I know what to do."

On the recruiting trail, it appears things will be plenty busy as time goes on. The 6-foot-6, 228-pound Griffin, who is committed to Texas A&M, said he is continuing to keep his options open while keeping his commitment to the Aggies.

He'll be one of several notable recruits at Kyle Field on Saturday when the No. 18 Aggies host No. 6 LSU. While he is still committed to the Aggies, the Tigers are one of the teams that he's listening to.

"My options are still open," Griffin said. "I'm still looking at different schools like LSU, Alabama, Oregon. So far, those are the [other] schools I've been looking at."

What does Texas A&M have to do to keep his feelings about the Aggies strong?

"Just keep coming hard," he said. "Just keep coming hard."

He'll visit Aggieland on Saturday and said that LSU and Alabama are other places he could take a visit later this season or after the season. Griffin said he is looking forward to Saturday's game and that he likes what he has seen from the Aggies so far.

"They've started off good so far," he said. "They're doing real good right now. I like what they're doing. Coach [Kevin] Sumlin, he keeps throwing the ball. So I'm liking that."
