WR James Clark eyeing Texas official visit

While former commit Ricky Seals-Jones ended his recruitment Monday with a commitment to Texas A&M, Texas is still searching for another receiver to take his place in its 2013 class.

He’s no Seals-Jones clone, but four-star New Smyrna Beach, Fla., speedster James Clark has emerged as one potential replacement.

Clark received a visit from Longhorns receivers coach Darrell Wyatt last week and hopes to take an official visit to Austin in the near future.

“Texas is a great school,” Clark said. “I love the program and we’re considering an official visit in January.”

Right now, Clark is targeting the weekend of Jan. 18 for his trip. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound slot receiver made an official visit to Northwestern this weekend and appreciated what the Wildcats had to offer.

“It went well. I loved the school, loved the atmosphere,” Clark said. “With the guys and the coaching staff, it was just a great visit as a whole. I got to sit down and watch film and where they see me in the offense and how I can make an impact. It got me excited.

“Coach [Pat] Fitzgerald is a great guy and a man of high character, and that’s what you want in a coach.”

This was Clark’s second official visit after he tripped to Purdue in October. Figuring out where to take his final three official visits will take some time.

Clark said Duke, Rutgers and NC State are in the mix, and Florida has been showing interest recently but has yet to offer.

“So far every school that has offered me wants me to take a visit in January,” Clark said. “I’ll have to think hard about it.”

At this point, is Texas in good shape to land one of those final visits?

“I’d like to think they’ll be one of the three,” Clark said. “Honestly, right now, yes.”

Clark has yet to receive an offer from Texas, but it’s his understanding that he will receive one if and when he does make his official visit.

He has enjoyed getting to know Wyatt over the past few weeks, and Clark is confident he could find a good role in a Texas offense that already has verbal commits from four-star receivers Jake Oliver (Dallas/Jesuit) and Jacorey Warrick (Houston/Cypress Falls).

“He said they’re recruiting me not only because I’m a speed guy but because I’m a great player on the field,” Clark said. “With Marquise Goodwin graduating, he felt that I could really take on that role.”
