Longhorns offer Georgia safety Vonn Bell

It's safe to say that ESPNU Watch List member Vonn Bell (Rossville, Ga./Ridgeland) can play a little ball.

The 6-foot, 190-pound safety had never spoken to any member of Texas' coaching staff before today, but by 8:30 p.m. he had an offer.

"I called them eariler today and they said they were very interested," Bell said. "I wasn't sure if I had been offered the first time I spoke with them so I called them back and I asked if I had been offered and [defensive backs] coach [Duane] Akina said that I answered my own question."

The Longhorns join Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Tennessee, UCLA and Vanderbilt on Bell's list of offers.

"I guess it says something," Bell said of his Texas offer. "An offer from Texas means a lot. Texas is known across the country for football. You must be pretty tough to get offered."

Bell may be in Georgia now but he is no stranger to the Lone Star State. He lived in Dallas for five years and still has family in Texas. That could play to Texas' advantage whenever Bell makes plans to visit programs. He said he would visit Texas at some point.

"I'll have to check my calendar and see what's up and make plans," he said.

Bell is one of several out of state defensive back prospects Texas has inquired about. The Longhorns have also offered safety Marcell Harris (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) and have got in touch with Su'a Cravens (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta) and Cole Luke (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton).
