Board Meeting: April 5, 2012

Welcome to your daily Board Meeting. Each evening we’ll update you on the day’s hottest topics on the HornsNation forum.

1. More on Justin Manning: Dallas Kimball DT Justin Manning had some interesting things to say about Oklahoma a few days ago in an interview with William Wilkerson. The 2013 recruit said he would have committed to the Sooners by now had they started recruiting him earlier in the process.

For what it’s worth, Manning wasn’t exactly glowing about the Longhorns. Do these kinds of slights help or hurt schools. Maybe for some recruits, but big, elite programs have to take their time and make the correct evaluations. How else will they stay as good.

Wilkerson does look at Texas’ chances of landing him, and while it might be slim, Texas will still stay on him.

Where do you think Manning lands?

2. BCS adjustments: Nothing really stirs controversy and ire liking talking about the BCS. It’s like talking about politics at a dinner party, a fight just might break out.

Well, BCS leaders have discussed a variety of topics and four different scenarios were listed in a memo ranging from minor adjustments to the current system to a full-fledged four-team playoff.

JollyBoi72 commented: “68 team playoff! Haha”

It’s probably not out of the question. This debate has certainly been gone over by numerous people and will continue to be debated until, at least, when the TV contracts are up.

What do you think? How would you change the BCS format?

3. Best hoops job: John Calipari naturally said Kentucky. ESPN’s Doug Gottlieb said Rick Barnes had the best job in hoops.

Gottlieb’s point is that Barnes lives in a great city, has access to a large talent base to recruit and more importantly is a moderately successful coach at a football school Barnes makes a great salary and works for a program that is dedicated to athletic success in all of its sports, but will always be football first. So, Barnes can fly under the radar – in both good and bad seasons – and still have a pretty good gig.

What do you think about Gottlieb’s idea?
