2014 LB Hampton seeing increased interest

CEDAR HILL, Texas -- Even in a land of plain Under Armour T-shirts, like it was at the Dallas Under Armour Sevens last Saturday, it doesn't take long to figure out who Cameron Hampton is.

Just look for the linebacker patrolling the middle of the field with controlled abandonment, and often with a smile on his face.

Hampton's ability to cover the flats and drop back to the intermediate routes on Saturday made it easy to see why college coaches from across the country have already flocked to Dallas Carter to check out the 2014 linebacker. Alabama was the most recent school to stop by two weeks ago.

"Everything is going quite great," the 6-foot-2, 205-pound Hampton said. "I just have to keep working and get better. I've been dreaming about this. A bunch of schools have come by to see me. I just have to get my grades right and focus on school."

Hampton has also made trips to Texas, LSU, Oklahoma and Florida. He took away something from each school to put in his memory bank as he continues down his recruiting trail.

"The LSU visit was a real intense practice," he said. "Everything was nice out there. Oklahoma had the best academic program and their football team is good too. Texas had a nice spring game. They have a good linebacking corps and are real physical and real big."

As for Florida, Hampton said that's always been the school he's wanted to go to.

"The weather and they play in the SEC," he said.

Aside from those schools, Hampton has also been in contact with Oregon, Boise State, Texas and North Texas.

It's way too early to announce any favorites but Hampton said wherever he goes is going to have to meet his academic standards.

"Education is everything," he said. "That comes first on my list."
