Hardreck Walker (Houston/Westfield) was beginning to think his favorite school growing up was never going to show him any interest.
“I was wondering when Texas was going to come along,” Walker said. “I thought I would at least get a junior day invitation. I guess not.”
But UT coaches visited the 6-foot-2, 281-pound defensive tackle this spring and got him to attend Texas’ camp on Sunday.
Walker felt underprepared when he attended the same camp last summer. He’s confident he performed much better this time around and hopes Texas defensive tackles coach Bo Davis felt the same.
“He said they’re taking one more guy at DT and he’s going to come down to watch me play this fall,” Walker said. “They’re going to make my first three games, evaluate them and I guess we’ll go from there.”
Walker said Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Michigan and Missouri are on top as the schools who have offered and are recruited him hardest this spring. He’s hoping Texas will join that list soon.
“When I was younger I was a UT fan, I used to love UT,” Walker said. “I watched every game and I was just a diehard UT fan. The fact that they actually want to recruit me is pretty exciting.
“The camp kind of shined a new light on Texas. I think we’re going to start talking a lot more over the summer.”
Walker plans to camp at Texas A&M next week and hopes to attend camps at Baylor and Texas Tech later this summer.
