TE Hobbs seeing more interest from Texas

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Longhorns still don’t have a tight end commitment for 2012, but they continue to show interest in one from the Dallas metroplex.

Two-star recruit Vincent Hobbs (Mesquite, Texas/Horn) was informed by his coach Monday that Texas tight ends coach and co-recruiting coordinator Bruce Chambers would be at his basketball game on Friday.

“Hopefully I will learn a little bit more about what is going on,” said Hobbs, who has a 73 grade from Scouts Inc. and is rated as the No. 99 tight end overall. “This will be his second game.”

Chambers stopped by to watch Hobbs play for the first time last Tuesday and, according to Hobbs, told him he would bring co-offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin with him.

All of this interest from Texas has come as a pleasant surprise to Hobbs, who stands 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds. He simply didn't think the Longhorns would be interested in him since they’ve stockpiled this class with receivers.

“I mean, I would like them to offer. I want them to offer, because that would be a good thing for me. My interest in them has grown since they have shown more interest.”

Hobbs is hoping to take an official visit to Texas. He took his first one to Colorado State a few weeks ago and really enjoyed his time.

“It was great. I liked it,” he said. “The only thing I didn’t like was the weather. Other than that, I like it. They showed a lot of connection. It was more of a family than it was a college, and I liked that.”

Hobbs said that Marshall has asked him to come for an official visit, but he is hesitant to take one right now simply because he wants to wait to see who else will extend an invite.

“I only get five [official visits] so I am waiting for Texas and Arkansas to come around, so I don’t want to waste them,” Hobbs said.

Texas Tech also could be getting into the mix for Hobbs. He said one of its coaches came to watch him practice today and spoke with him for a few minutes afterward.
