Staff picks: Texas vs. Kansas

Texas 49 Kansas 17

Texas will physically beat up Kansas with the run game and I expect the Kansas safety Bradley McDougald to have a lot of tackles. It will be good for him but bad for the Kansas defense. Texas will run for 300 yards and impose its will early on Kansas. The Texas defense will actually have a really good game even though it will be marginalized because it is against Kansas. Texas will force turnovers and put this game away early.

Texas 49, Kansas 17

The Longhorns will still give up points because they just can't help themselves, and the scoring explosion might not start off quickly. Remember, Kansas State was only beating this team 21-14 at halftime en route to its 56-16 beatdown. But Texas' offense will take wear the Jayhawks down in the second half. Manny Diaz's much maligned defense can and will force turnovers against the Big 12's worst offense (No. 117 nationally). If the UT offensive line gets rolling early, this one could get ugly.

Texas 42, Kansas 14

Kansas has played better at home and held Oklahoma State to 20 points in Lawrence. But depth on defense is going to be an issue for KU against Texas and in the third and fourth quarters the Jayhawks will be unable to stop the run. On offense the Jayhawks have benched Dayne Crist in favor a redshirt freshman Michael Cummings. Undoubtedly Texas will attempt to rattle the young quarterback. Cummings threw two picks a week ago against Oklahoma.

Texas 40, Kansas 13

This should be a game that Texas is able to take control of by halftime, especially with the Jayhawks going with redshirt freshman Michael Cummings and not Dayne Crist. Kansas does play much better at home. It gave Oklahoma State and TCU fits in Lawrence earlier this season. But the Longhorns will be too much for them, especially on the ground.
