Texas went on the road and knocked off Texas Tech this week 31-22 for a crucial victory that gets the Longhorns’ season back on track. But the real recruiting news of the weekend for Texas came from Fort Worth, not Lubbock.
Following his game against Southwest on Saturday afternoon, ESPN 150 defensive tackle and longtime Texas pledge A’Shawn Robinson said he has scheduled an official visit to Alabama for next weekend’s game against Texas A&M.
Robinson has been wavering on his commitment to Texas for a while now. He took an official visit to Florida State in September and plans to visit USC in December.
The 6-foot-4, 305-pound prospect is Texas’ only defensive tackle pledge. He said he remains committed to Texas “for right now” but still wants to see what other schools have to offer. He received permission from the UT coaching staff to take his visits.
Another Fort Worth standout the Longhorns are still chasing is ESPN 150 receiver Robbie Rhodes. The No. 5 ranked wideout from Fort Worth Southwest remains firmly committed to Baylor but continues to stay in touch with UT receivers coach Darrell Wyatt.
Several top 2014 Texas targets went to Baton Rouge, La., this weekend for LSU’s big game against Alabama, including defensive end Solomon Thomas (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) and cornerbacks Ed Paris (Arlington, Texas/Timberview) and Tony Brown (Beaumont, Texas/Ozen). All three already hold early offers from UT. Former Texas commit Ricky Seals-Jones (Sealy, Texas/Sealy) also was in attendance.
Next up for Texas is a home contest against Iowa State, but so far no official visitors are expected for the 11 a.m. game.
