ESPN Watch List safety Jamal Adams (Carrollton, Texas/Hebron) has a dozen offers, and every offer makes him smile, but even he had to admit there was something a little different after picking up an offer from Ohio State on Thursday.
Adams’ 12th offer came after speaking with Buckeyes offensive coordinator Tom Herman. Adams adds the Ohio State offer with ones from Florida, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M and several other heavyweight programs.
“It’s big,” Adams said of his latest offer. “It’s a big program, like Florida or Alabama, and it’s a great D-1 school that I’m very interested in. I think it can put me where my dreams want me to go."
A 6-foot, 195-pound safety, Adams said he spoke to Herman about potential playing time early, the overall tradition of the program and the advantages of an Ohio State education. Adams also said Herman wanted him to speak with head coach Urban Meyer after the turn of the new year.
“I liked all the words he was saying,” Adams said. “I don’t know too much about [Meyer] right now, but I know he gets wins and wins national championships. I just hear he’s a great coach.”
Adams said no junior day trips -- for Ohio State or any other schools -- have been set as of late, but he is interested in taking in Ohio State, Florida, Texas A&M, Texas and Oklahoma. While they haven’t offered, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Michigan and Oregon all have shown interest.
Adams finished his junior year with 63 tackles and three interceptions. He also had three pass breakups, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a blocked field goal.
