SAN ANTONIO -- ESPN 150 athlete and Texas commit A’Shawn Robinson (Fort Worth, Texas/Arlington Heights) was one of the defensive standouts for the West team Monday at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He also arguably had the best beard at the Blossom Athletic Center.
“The guys call me Kimbo Slice,” Robinson said.
It was one of the few times Robinson was in a playful mood all Monday. The 6-foot-5, 295-pound defensive tackle took the first practice seriously, establishing himself as a dominant player to watch. Longhorns fans are hoping he will bring that physical nature to Austin, Texas, next year, but Robinson is taking visits to make sure Texas is the place for him.
Robinson has visited USC (Dec. 7) and Florida State (Sept. 21). He said he will take a visit to Alabama on Jan. 18 and a visit to Texas on Jan. 25.
“I’m almost done with it,” Robinson said of his process. “Right now, I’m a hard [Texas] commit, but I’m just checking out the schools to make sure I’m making the right decision.”
And when will Robinson make his final decision?
“National signing day,” he said.
