One player that would love to be in the mix is Trenton Brown (Albany, Ga./Georgia Military College).
“I like Texas. It’s home really,” Brown said. “My mom is from Texas and I was born in Austin. My aunt stays in Austin about 10 minutes away from the stadium, and my grandpa lives in Bastrop.”
Brown said he lived in Austin for five years, moved to San Francisco for a while, and came back to Texas for a few more years before moving to Georgia.
Brown (6-foot-8, 350 pounds) actually likes Texas so much that he has them in his top five schools along with LSU, Florida State, Alabama and Georgia.
“If they offered me that would put them even more at the top,” he said.
Brown’s current offers include Florida, Georgia and Louisiana-Lafayette. His coaches are hearing a lot from those schools as well as Kansas, South Florida, Florida State, Kansas State, Marshall, LSU and Alabama.
They are also hearing from Texas’ offensive line coach Stacy Searels.
“I am supposed to be giving them a call once a week but I haven’t done that yet,” Brown said. “I’ll call him as soon as I get off the phone with you.”
Brown said he spoke with Searels over the Christmas break and was told to send him some more film so Texas could work on setting up a visit.
“I came to Texas over the break to visit my family but I couldn’t go in the football offices,” Brown said. “I did look at what little of the campus I could see but I couldn’t see much.”
Brown, who will have three years to play two once he makes his decision, can’t believe that he’s received so much attention from programs across the country.
“I knew I was going to get recruited but not like this,” he said. “I didn’t think I would have these big offers so early.”
When asked what factors would be key to making a decision, he said “A good graduation rate and a good criminal justice program.”
