Four Downs: Texas' best athlete?

Each week Sean Adams looks at a few topics around the Texas Longhorns and college football.

1st Down: Best overall athlete on the Texas team?

Demarco Cobbs is a guy that I have my eye on for 2012. Cobbs is the least talked about starting linebacker on the Texas roster but may be the best overall athlete on the defense.

He plays with an attitude, runs like an offensive player and makes contact like a middle linebacker. He can cover and can play sideline to sideline.

Keenan Robinson and Emmanuel Acho were huge in play, leadership and experience. Cobbs will go a long way in helping this team start where last year’s defense left.

They could even be better in 2012, and Cobbs could be a big reason.

2nd Down: The comeback could be good for Texas

Wide receiver John Harris and tight end D.J. Grant are both returning from injuries and both have a shot to really bring something to the Longhorns’ offense.

Harris made an impact early in the 2011 season before he was sidelined with a foot injury after three games. He is a big-bodied, physical wide receiver that is a different from Jaxon Shipley, Mike Davis and Marquise Goodwin. He could contribute early in 2012 and be a pleasant surprise for a fan base that forgets about players once they are injured.

Grant started four games last season, but this is in his second season after knee surgery and this should be the year when he breaks out and shows his full potential. Tight end is a huge need for the Longhorns and this should be the time for Grant to step up.
