TAMU remains favorite for Edwin Freeman

MIDLAND, Texas -- For those who had any concerns about ESPN Watch List athlete Edwin Freeman (Arlington, Texas/Bowie) playing safety, all questions were answered Saturday afternoon.

Freeman is projected to play safety in college, but for the first time this season, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound athlete lined up at free safety -- and it happened to be in Bowie’s biggest game of the year. Freeman, who has been playing linebacker for the Volunteers the majority of the season, was a big-time playmaker in Bowie’s 31-14 win over El Paso (Texas) Franklin.

“I thought it’d be pretty tough,” Freeman said. “When I did play safety, I used to play the other position, the Pistol. I just had to face it.”

Freeman said during the summer that Texas A&M held a slight lead in the recruiting process. On Friday, the hard-hitting 2014 reconfirmed the Aggies as his front-runner, but he said he’s open to all schools.

Freeman said his ultimate decision will be determined by three factors -- the level of competition, the tradition of the program and the quality of the coaching staff. For now, Freeman said he will keep his primary focus on helping Bowie win as many games as possible.

That means he’ll be focused on being the best free safety possible.

“It’s all about making plays, big plays,” Freeman said. “I’ve got to do that to help my team.”
