Devonta Pollard deciding on Friday

Devonta Pollard (De Kalb, Miss./Kemper County), a McDonald’s All-American and the highest rated available player in the Class of 2012, will announce his college choice on Friday.

The soft-spoken small forward will pick from Alabama, Georgetown, Missouri and Texas, according to his mother. Missouri has the biggest recruiting class and biggest scholarship crunch so the school of thought here is that the other three are in better shape.

“He’s come to the conclusion where he wants to go,” Jessie Pollard, Devonta’s mom said on Wednesday.

She indicated she hasn’t asked her son where he’s going and doesn’t intend to. It’s his decision and she doesn’t need to know until she needs to know, which is Friday at 6 p.m. ET when Devonta announces at Kemper County High School.

Pollard, who has already graduated, has been mum regarding his decision. Fan bases act as fan bases do and there was a collective sigh of relief when the news hit Wednesday afternoon. Everyone, including the Pollards, seems ready to conclude the process.

According to mom, Devonta signed four national letters of intent on May 16. With the post-dated letters of intent, there’s a window to turn them into the clearinghouse and Pollard’s national letter of intent should bind him to the program of his choosing.

A state champion as a senior, Pollard is an athletic forward who missed the McDonald’s game with a concussion he sustained the day before in a scrimmage. Pollard is ranked No. 28 in the 2012 ESPN 100.
