Kiffin closes practices to media

USC coach Lane Kiffin announced Monday that he will be closing all in-season practices to the media for the 2013 season, ending a long-standing policy of open media access to Trojans practices that dates back to the days of John McKay.

"We are going to close practice to the media," Kiffin said in a statement. "If I wanted to do what was in the best interests of Lane Kiffin, I'd leave practices open. But it's my job to do things that are in the best interest of the team, so we are closing practices. We are not going to change the (post-practice) access to the players or me. We are basically following most of college football and pro sports. This was the best decision for the team."

Fall camp practices will still be open to media, and several camp practices will also be open to the general public, as well. Kiffin said he wasn't sure how many practices would be open to the public, but he expects to announce that soon. Camp starts for the Trojans this coming August 3.
