LOS ANGELES -- For USC Trojans football fans, this summer is a bit different from the previous four now that the NCAA sanctions have mostly subsided. There is a reasonable sense of optimism and anticipation that the upcoming college football season could be a cardinal and gold Cinderella scenario with a new head coach and plenty of frontline talent.
Yet, despite the optimism, there remains one big question to be answered. It isn't whether the offensive line will be good enough to be a strength rather than a weakness or whether the fast-paced, no-huddle offense will be the panacea for a Pac-12 title.
The key question is whether the Trojans will have the mental toughness of a champion -- something this program had while winning national championships and making bowl appearances.
