Here is a look at what the USC Trojans depth chart has looked like through the opening week of spring ball:
Barkley is getting his work in but Lane Kiffin is also making sure to give extended reps to both Wittek and Kessler. Both young guys look solid and it should be real interesting to see how things pan out in the Coliseum scrimmages later in spring. Jesse Scroggins has been unavailable as he battles a hip injury and academic issues.
There may only be two tailbacks getting work right now, but they are two good ones. So far there hasn't been much from Buck Allen due to a nagging hamstring injury and he’s missing a real opportunity to make an impression. It’s been a real steady opening to spring for Vainuku, who looks ready for the starting role. Simmons is a walk-on who left the team last fall but is back to give the team a knowledgeable and serviceable backup.
We’re still listing Woods here even though he hasn’t taken any reps this spring due to an ankle injury. Lee has picked up right where he left off last fall and looks fantastic. Farmer was making a huge splash, but then hurt his hamstring and could miss a week or so. That has given Blackwell and Flournoy plenty of opportunities, and both are doing a solid job.
