The first day of the USC Rising Stars Camp is in the books and, as expected, there was plenty of elite talent on display.
The marquee group was the secondary with a pair of top safety recruits in USC verbal Su'a Cravens (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta) and Max Redfield (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo). Cravens posted a Twitter update (@CravenTDs_21) after the camp which said, “Sky patrol was on lock today at the SC camp! Me and Max Redfield was goin to work!”
Another player with a USC offer, cornerback Jalen Ramsey (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood Academy) made a return visit to the USC campus for the camp after having already taken an unofficial visit earlier this month. Encino (Calif.) Crespi safety Tyler Foreman was also in attendance.
If there was a position which featured talent equal to the secondary it would have to be the defensive line. In addition to USC verbal Kenny Bigelow (Elkton, Md./Eastern Christian Academy) there were also appearances from Auburn commit Dee Liner (Muscle Shoals, Ala./Muscle Shoals), Miami (Fla.) commit Keith Bryant (Delray Beach, Fla./Atlantic Community), Kenneth Clark (Rialto, Calif./Carter) and Torrodney Prevot (Houston/Taylor).
There were a pair of committed Trojans wide receivers in Eldridge Massington(Mesquite, Texas/West Mesquite) and Steven Mitchell (Mission Hills, Calif./Alemany). It was the first visit to the USC campus for Massington and by all accounts he turned in a solid performance. Jayron Kearse from Fort Myers (Fla.) South Fort Myers recently decommitted from Miami and he made the trip west for the camp as well.
On the offensive line, Nico Falah from Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco was there after making a campus visit last week with his father in anticipation of his upcoming college choice in July. Class of 2014 propsect Viane Talamaivo (Corona, Calif./Centennial) was also in attendance, but Khaliel Rodgers (Elkton, Md./Eastern Christian) did not make the trip after a last-minute change of plans due to his summer school schedule.
Johnny Stanton (Santa Margarita, Calif./Rancho Santa Margarita) led the quarterback group.
Linebacker Michael Hutchings (Concord, Calif./De La Salle) arrived on campus Tuesday afternoon and is scheduled to take part in on-field camp drills on Wednesday.
