Farmer returns to USC practice

It was a helmets, shoulder pads and shorts practice for the Trojans today with the return to the field of wide receiver George Farmer, who participated the majority of the day and looked good.

Farmer has missed most of fall camp while struggling with a hamstring issue but had a leaping 25-yard touchdown catch over Kevon Seymour and came back later with a short TD reception from Max Wittek. USC head coach Lane Kiffin said after practice that the next two weeks will be huge for Farmer in terms of staying healthy and preparing for the season. Farmer and Robert Woods were both involved in punt return drills.

Kiffin also mentioned that true freshman receiver Nelson Agholor has been coming along, adding that he’s a hard worker who often stays by himself after practice to get in extra work.

All three starting linebackers were out of action Monday. Dion Bailey, who left practice yesterday, had his left arm in a sling (as per policy, no details were given). Hayes Pullard was not in action for the first time this fall while Lamar Dawson has missed several days in a row. In their place, Anthony Sarao was at WLB, Scott Starr in the middle while both Tony Burnett and Jabari Ruffin saw action at SLB.

Aundrey Walker got in limited work before heading off the field. Max Tuerk, who is now wearing No. 75, spent the majority of the day as the first unit left tackle. As for his number change from 67 to 75, Kiffin said he wanted to give him a tackle number.

Soma Vainuku had a nice 20-yard run off the right side. He continues to impress with the ball in his hands.

Josh Shaw got work once again with the first unit at cornerback. Kiffin said he is an overall football player, not just a corner. Nickell Robey left practice early, with no reason given. Marqise Lee also left early.
