WeAreSC recruiting reporter Blair Angulo answers reader questions in his mailbag every Friday. Have a USC recruiting question of your own? Submit it here.
Matthew D. (Burlingame, Calif.): When is Robert Nkemdiche visiting and is there a realistic shot Troy lands him? Even though there is always drama with top recruits, Robert seems well grounded and a good kid who would fit in easily here.
Nkemdiche (Longanville, Ga./Grayson), the nation's top-ranked recruit, has said he wants to see some schools out West, namely USC and Oregon. But, as he told ESPN's Kipp Adams this week, the chance Nkemdiche de-commits from Clemson is "probably slim to none." It may not be realistic but if this five-star makes it to Los Angeles, you can bet the Trojans will throw everything at him.
Lance (Yorba Linda, Calif.): Which local high school game is a must-watch for USC recruiting fans?
If I had to pick just one, it'd be the showdown between Redlands East Valley (Kylie Fitts) and Vista Murrieta (Su'a Cravens) in Murrieta on Friday, Sept. 14. Not only will spectators get to see two of the state's top prospects (including the top overall player in Cravens), but also two well-coached teams that don't make many mistakes. Both squads are serious contenders in the CIF Southern Section Inland Division, so it should be a fun game to watch. It will be broadcast live locally on Fox Sports West.
Obet Martinez (Orange County, Calif.): Hey Blair, can you tell us what USC would do if a five-star recruit decides to join the Trojans before or on signing day since we are maxed out on scholarships? Thank you, Fight On!
If the objective is to always to take the best available recruits, be it Nkemdiche or five-star offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil (Lake City, Fla./Columbia), then USC would find a way to make room. Recruiting can be cruel, and a current commit could find that out the hard way if a can't-miss prospect comes knocking. It would take a lot for the staff to alter this class, though.
Tyler (Washington, D.C.): What 2014 recruits are the coaches looking at and who has offers?
Click here for a list of the 2014 prospects with confirmed offers from the Trojans. La Mirada (Calif.) tight end Tyler Luatua is a big local target for USC, which has three offensive line commits in next year's class: Casey Tucker (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton), Jordan Poland (La Jolla, Calif./Country Day School) and Toa Lobendahn (Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood). We could see some offers emerge as juniors start leaving their marks in the first half of the high school season.
