Kiffin opens competition at left tackle

USC coach Lane Kiffin said in his media conference call on Sunday night that true freshman Max Tuerk will split reps in practice this week with starter Aundrey Walker at left tackle.

“We’ve got a standard of expectation here and the players know that,” Kiffin said. “The effort in the Stanford game did not meet that and it showed up on film. Aundrey understands that. He can either pout about it or he can go out and practice hard to keep his job.”

Walker, a first-year starter, struggled against the Stanford defensive line but he certainly wasn’t alone in that regard on a USC offensive line that was without center Khaled Holmes. Kiffin said it was the most missed assignments he had ever seen from an offensive line group in the time he’s been coaching at USC.

The Trojans return to the practice field on Tuesday.
