Five key games featuring USC recruits

Here are this week’s top five high school football games featuring USC recruits:

Houston Nimitz at Houston Alief Taylor, Thursday: With defensive ends Torrodney Prevot (USC) and Ogbonnia Okoronkwo (Oklahoma State) and safety Jonathan Wiggins (Texas A&M) in tow, the defense hasn’t been a problem for Alief Taylor (3-2). The big challenge this week will be containing Nimitz (4-2) three-star running back Dre’Vian Young, a speedster who has scholarship offers from Kansas State and Utah.

La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat at Mission Hills (Calif.) Alemany: Last week USC receiver commit Steven Mitchell and Alemany (6-1) had to fend off Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame in the Serra League opener, now it’s undefeated Bishop Amat (5-0-1) that rolls into town. Mitchell will look to continue his stellar season Friday.

Gardena (Calif.) Serra at Los Angeles Cathedral: Serra’s highly regarded 2014 duo of Adoree’ Jackson and Dwight Williams weren’t overwhelmed by Washington-bound quarterback Troy Williams of Harbor City Narbonne in a loss earlier this season, and now they get another opportunity to prove themselves against LSU signal-caller commit Hayden Rettig of L.A. Cathedral (6-0). Serra (4-2) lost its Mission League opener to West Hills Chaminade last week and can’t afford another hiccup.

Grass Valley (Calif.) Bear River at Auburn (Calif.) Placer: After being named homecoming king and receiving his U.S. Army All-American Game jersey last week, Trojans defensive tackle commit Eddie Vanderdoes turns his attention to keeping Placer (6-0) undefeated. Friday night’s battle doesn’t figure to be a cakewalk -- Bear River is also a perfect 6-0 for the year.

Mission Viejo (Calif.) at San Clemente (Calif.): Before USC safety commit Max Redfield heads off to South Bend, Ind. for an official trip to Notre Dame, he’d like to push Mission Viejo’s record to 7-0. This one could get ugly quick -- San Clemente (4-3) has dropped three straight and shown its inexperience following the departures of standouts Kyle Murphy (Stanford), Travis Wilson (Utah) and Christian Tober (walk-on at USC) due to graduation.
