An unfortunate knee injury derailed Kelvin York on his way toward becoming a USC Trojan. The former Geismar (La.) Dutchtown High School star moved across the country to Fullerton College in order to earn a scholarship offer from USC. But after doing so, a meniscus injury suffered late this season will force him to undergo surgery next week, ultimately resulting in his decommitment from USC.
It's the first instance of the limited scholarship numbers really affecting the class of 2012. York said that while Washington coaches left their scholarship offer on the table, the USC coaches were much more careful about the injury, which will lead to York heading elsewhere. It's an unfortunate blow for the Trojans, who definitely could have used York in the running game. It's also a tough situation for York, as he wanted so badly to wear cardinal and gold, but will have to begin the recruiting process again.
There is no doubt York will land on his feet and it's likely the Trojans haven't seen the last of him, as Washington is certainly a possible destination for the big back.
