USC Top 5: The Opening standouts

As one would expect when the nation’s best athletes gather in the same place, there were plenty of standout performances last week at The Opening. USC had only two commits on hand, but Trojans had some representatives who certainly helped themselves with stellar showings. Here are the top five:

OG Toa Lobendahn (La Habra, Calif./La Habra)

6-foot-3, 293 pounds

ESPN 300 ranking: 242

There might not have been a more surprising prospect at the event based solely on how little attention Lobendahn received since committing to the Trojans before his junior season. The 6-foot-3, 293-pound Lobendahn is ranked No. 25 overall in the state, but that might change after he advanced to the lineman challenge final and opened the coaches’ eyes at The Opening last week. Lobendahn showed a nasty and physical side by pancaking lineman Andrew Brown in consecutive days and also showed the great technique that helped him land the USC offer last year.
