Kalil shines at combine

USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil went to the NFL combine this week with the goal of solidifying his status as the top offensive lineman in the draft. Mission accomplished.

The offensive linemen wrapped up their combine session on Saturday, and there was plenty of buzz about Kalil's performance. Kalil ran a 4.99 in the 40-yard dash -- the second-fastest time for an offensive lineman -- and he put up a solid 30 reps of 225 pounds in the bench press.

Kalil (6-foot-6, 306 pounds) is known for his athleticism, so the fact that he ran a 40 in under five seconds is a number that will really resonate, especially considering the fact that he weighed in heavier than his listed college playing weight of 297 pounds.

There is a lot of draft speculation that Kalil will make an attractive option for the Minnesota Vikings, who hold the No. 3 pick and are in a need of a franchise-type left tackle.
