Trojans offer Class of 2014 defensive end

Class of 2014 ESPN Watch List defensive end Andrew Williams (McDonough, Ga./Eagles Landing Christian Academy) received a phone call from his high school coach Monday and immediately did a double-take.

Williams was offered by USC, and it was nothing short of surprising.

"It means a lot, it really does," the 6-foot-4, 231-pound Williams said. "I was really surprised. I didn't think USC recruited guys down here. I've been watching them a lot this year and I've been impressed. The tradition and the way they run their defense, I'm really interested."

Williams also has scholarship offers from Alabama, Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Missouri, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Texas, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech.

"USC had sent me letters, but this definitely came out of nowhere," Williams said. "But USC is definitely near the top. ... Coach (Lane) Kiffin always seems to be pumped up. The team has a great mentality. I've been watching defense and they seem to have a great connection."

Williams said he would like to line up an unofficial visit to Los Angeles following the high school season in hopes of getting to know the Trojans coaching staff.

"It will definitely be discussed and I'd want to make it down there," Williams said. "I definitely want to get to know the coaching staff and some defensive players to see how they like it there."

Williams said he could commit to a school before the start of next season.

"I feel like I will make a decision before the start of my senior year," he said.
