DE Marcus Farria has fast first step

Marcus Farria has the fastest first step his coach has ever seen.

That is high praise for the 6-foot-4, 235-pound defensive end (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial), considering Richard Taylor has been coaching for 40 years.

“He may look on the skinny side, but he’s very strong, very powerful,” Taylor said. “He knows how to use leverage and there’s a lot of room to put on weight there.”

Farria committed to Washington last week, selecting the Huskies over programs like Notre Dame and Arkansas. Taylor called the rising senior a friendly, respectful kid –- until he gets on the field.

“I’ve had coaches from around the country that have said he was one of the top 15 defensive linemen in the country,” Taylor said. “I’ve had D-line coaches in college who have said this is a kid who can make money.”

Taylor said the potent pass rusher finished with 13 sacks as a junior but is only beginning to tap into his potential.

“When he gets in year-round training and good nutrition, he doesn’t know how good he can be,” Taylor said.
