Kicker Cameron Van Winkle was so good as a junior at Snoqualmie (Wash.) Mount Si his coach joked that he had given up all his other duties to focus on the kicking game.
“You can see what my coaching has done for this kid,” Wildcats coach Charlie Kinnune said with a laugh. “It’s just unbelievable.”
Van Winkle was prolific in 2011. He made 18 field goals in 11 games. He hit six that were 42 yards or longer. His longest was from 49 yards.
He is already No. 2 on the state’s all-time career list with 29 in 33 games.
Van Winkle, who Washington a verbal commitment in June, is preparing for his senior season, but recently took some time to show off his leg and look back on his decision.
