It’s going to be a tough one to top, but the Evander Kane blockbuster officially kicked off trading season in the NHL.
That one was a good ol’ hockey trade, a deal that was made possible by two very unique circumstances in Winnipeg and Buffalo, and appears to be good for both teams. It's also of a magnitude that likely won’t be duplicated before the deadline.
From here on out, chances are it’s going to be about contending teams adding rental players, with the currency of choice being second-round picks, as teams hoard their first-rounders with a stacked draft class available this summer.
So in looking at the top 20 trade targets heading into the March 2 deadline, it’s heavy in potential unrestricted free agents. But we sprinkled in some players with term left on their deal for flavor.
