Will Maryland offer local PG Peters?

PHILADELPHIA -- The pink elephant in the room when it comes to point guard Roddy Peters (Suitland, Md./Suitland) is Maryland. Can the Terps offer? Should they? Will they? What happens if they do?

"I'll let you know," Peters said with a smile.

Maryland coach Mark Turgeon watched him Thursday, and he is clearly going to give Peters a strong look. Peters knows the deal and will have a question if the offer comes: "How much does Turgeon really want me?" Maryland is also in it to win it with the Harrison twins, and that's a complicating factor.

Cincinnati, Clemson, Georgetown, Memphis, Temple, Texas and Virginia Tech also like Peters. Hokies coach James Johnson and Bearcats coach Mick Cronin were also in the morning session.

Trocha has some big names after him

There’s much to be learned about Colombian power forward Tony Trocha (Houston/Saint Thomas). According to one person close to the forward, his pre-summer list contains Kentucky, Ohio State, Arizona, Oregon and Texas A&M.

Roberson with two visits set

Tyler Roberson (Roselle, N.J./Roselle Catholic) hasn't tidied up his list. However, we got him to give up a pair of schools he is definitely going to visit. Syracuse and Pittsburgh are on the list of fall official trips. If you’re Cuse and Pitt, do you sell the Big East or ACC?

Four stand out to Morgan

ESPN 60 SF Dwayne Morgan (Baltimore/City College) is going to one day drop the hammer and end any discussion about his candidacy for the Top 20. The talent is there, and he was trying to play a team game in a non-team setting, which is admirable. When asked who had his attention this month, Morgan went with UNLV (which added a Baltimore guard last year), Georgetown, Texas and Miami. The Terps offered before July.

Thomas' stock on the rise

Class of 2014 power forward Mike Thomas (Villa Platte, La./Ville Platte) almost didn't come to the Reebok Breakout Challenge. He entertained going to a reunion of his fourth-grade AAU team instead. Seriously. In fairness, Thomas is from a small town (four restaurants by his count), and this was only his second plane ride. Mike, good call on Reebok. Most of the schools in Louisiana except LSU -- he is not at that level yet -- will need to monitor his progress.

Saint Joseph's interested in Reid

Dominique Reid (Erial, N.J./Timber Creek Regional) is a slightly undersized mid-major power forward who will carve out his niche. We pressed him, and he said Saint Joseph’s was throwing heat at him to start the summer.

Capps adding more offers?

Winger Jordan Capps (Suwanee, Ga./Peachtree Ridge) has offers from Appalachian State, Western Kentucky and Georgia. Ole Miss, LSU and Auburn are in evaluation mode with him.
