HYATTSVILLE, Md. -- No. 3-ranked Huntington Prep received a scare from Princeton Day on the final day of the Team Takeover Hoops Festival.
Small forward Andrew Wiggins, the nation’s top overall recruit, dug down and two of his teammates followed suit as Prep survived an offensive onslaught from one of the most gifted sub-6-footers in the country, scoring maven Aquille Carr (Baltimore/Princeton Day).
Princeton Day, with a pair of athletic frontcourt forwards and Carr, emptied its tank in an attempt to spring the upset. About midway through the third quarter, the Panthers collectively ran out of gas. It was at that point that Prep center Moses Kingsley and shooting guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes stepped up. Rathan-Mayes, hobbled with a thigh injury, began connecting from deep. Kingsley had at least three offensive rebound putbacks in the second half.
