UK leads for ESPN 100 SG Young

LAS VEGAS -- Here’s a shocker: Kentucky is the lead choice of a top-10 prospect.

In May at the Spiece Run n' Slam, James Young (Troy, Mich./Troy) unabashedly sported a Kentucky T-shirt during warm-ups of a game. Fast-forward two months, and Young made no mistake about his leader.

“It’s Kentucky,” Young said. “[Coach John Calipari's] a great coach and he says he’s very interested.”

The last Michigan player to pick the Wildcats was Joe Crawford.

Ennis willing to wait

Tyler Ennis (Brampton, Ontario/St. Benedict’s) has a phone that’s not working in Las Vegas. That’s one way to deal with the text message and unlimited communication mandate from the NCAA. Syracuse has been a steady on his list, while Illinois and Louisville are players for his services. Virginia's in the mix, too. Ennis admitted that schools on his original list moved on and took other guys, but he’s not worried about losing a favorite. “The school that wants me the most will wait.”

Johnson down to five

At Game 4 of the Philadelphia 76ers' final playoff series, wing JaJuan Johnson (Memphis, Tenn./Southwind) sat in a suite watching his cousin Lou Williams play. Not too shabby. Johnson has Texas, Louisville, Georgetown, Alabama and Memphis on his list. Back in the day, his cousin went pro right out of high school, but did sign with the Georgia Bulldogs.

Pure shooter

There’s no doubt in my mind that Reggie Cameron (Paterson, N.J./Hudson Catholic) owns one of the sweetest strokes of the entire camp. It’s pure. He is an asset on the college level because of it.

In the fall, Cameron indicated he’d like to visit N.C. State, Connecticut, Miami and Michigan. The Wolfpack is popping up on a lot of lists here at camp. “They’ll be losing a lot of guys,” Cameron said.
