The Miami Hurricanes gobbled up a recruit they had on campus last weekend. Shooting guard Davon Reed (Princeton, N.J./Princeton Day) committed to the ACC program Friday night.
Reed, known for his defensive ability and deep range, had plenty of attention, including Wake Forest in addition to the Canes. Miami offered playing time to go with academics. Reed is likely to pursue a degree in sports medicine.
The one-time ESPN 100 recruit left some low-hanging fruit on the vine last summer. Neither he nor his Team Final club put the pieces together, but Reed has reflected on the summer and learned, and the thinking man’s shooting guard will be ready for Coral Gables next fall.
“I looked at who had been there the longest from when I was hot at my highest point and then at my lowest point,” Reed said of the decision. “I didn’t have that great a summer with Team Final so I wanted to see who was there the longest.”
Miami’s commitment to him was unwavering.
“They’re looking at me as a 2[-guard] and 3, and defensively I can guard the 1, 2 and 3," he said of the Canes. "They’ll put you in a position to guard them all on defense.”
