Torian Graham backs off NC State pledge

The commitment of Torian Graham (Durham, N.C./Arlington Country Day), his second one to NC State, is already a thing of the past. Within a few hours, Graham backed off his commitment.

“I apologize this is happening,” Graham said. What actually happened is a matter of opinion. Graham, who has attended multiple high schools, is not yet qualified. One explanation for the quick change in plans centers around academics.

“They said because he hasn’t qualified and hasn’t taken the test they can’t take the commitment,” a source close to Graham sad. “He hasn’t qualified yet.”

With Graham, little has happened according to plan. He began his high school career at Hillside High in Durham and then transferred to Word of God. He didn’t finish out the season there and enrolled at Pace Academy outside Chapel Hill before heading to Florida and Arlington Country Day for his final season.

In the midst of all the school changes, he committed to NC State relatively soon after the new staff took over in Raleigh. That pledge lasted three months before it was rescinded. Thursday's turn of events further complicates his recruitment.
