Calif. prospects straying out of state

Six the top-10 players in the 2012 class from California are headed to the Pac-12 and one is still undecided. While that doesn't seem unusual, the interesting thing is that only one -- Grant Verhoeven (Visalia, Calif./Central Valley Christian) -- is headed to a school in California. He signed with Stanford.

Of the remaining five Californians headed to the Pac-12, Arizona signed the three best players from the state, while Oregon and Colorado landed one each.

By comparison, in the state of Texas, seven of the top-10 players from the Longhorn State signed with Texas-based schools.

Overall, the competition for California kids is getting more and more fierce and a long-term cause for concern for Cal, USC, UCLA and Stanford is that the homegrown talent in California isn’t staying in-state.
