The Seton Hall Pirates are on the verge of locking down their point guard in 2013. OK, so the cat’s pretty much out of the bag and he’s going to be a Pirate, but Aquille Carr (Baltimore, Md./Patterson) won’t make it official for a few days.
“Thursday at my school I’ll have a press conference and that’s when I’ll announce,” Carr said. “The chances of me going to Seton Hall is pretty high.”
That’s cool, ESPNU’s No. 59 junior wants to have a press conference and release it on his terms. Understandable. On Thursday at 10:30 a.m. ET he’ll put a cherry on top of the commitment.
So, what are the Pirates getting? Kevin Willard will have a weapon at his disposal, that’s for sure. Known as “The Crime Stopper,” Carr is a 5-foot-7 (on a good day) whiz with the basketball. Getting to the rim? Not a problem. He’s strong and fast. He wants to go fast, real fast.
The big question surrounding Carr is can he captain the ship at the highest level of college basketball? Will he be able to run a team when forced to play in the half-court set and execute? He’s a talent and Willard’s job will be reining him in and instilling rules and structure to his dribble-drive game.
