HS Showcase: What we learned

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas -- ESPN tipped off its season of high school basketball TV coverage with three games on Thursday featuring four ranked teams and seven ESPN 100 prospects.

I was in the house for two of them: Seguin (Texas) topping Kimball (Texas) and No. 1 Simeon (Ill.) getting upset by No. 18 DeSoto (Texas). I’ll call it like I saw and admit that neither was a work of art.

However, the venue gave us an early-season look at a number of elite players and a few guys we need to beef up our evaluations of. It was also a good chance to see ESPN 100 No. 2 prospect Jabari Parker, who is working his way back after missing several months with a foot injury.
