Khem Birch to visit Florida Tuesday

The re-recruitment of former McDonald’s All-American and Pittsburgh freshman Khem Birch, officially begins this week. According to Birch’s mother, the process begins on Tuesday.

“Starting tomorrow he’s going to go to visit Florida, New Mexico State and UNLV,” Wendy Sparks said. “The next week he wants to take a visit too. I’m not sure where he’s going to visit next but he wants to make his decision next week.”

Gonzaga and Oregon State, according to Sparks, are on a list for visits as well. The reality is a decision is in the near future so the process is more like speed dating. By mid-January at the latest, Birch will need to be enrolled in a new school.

“He’s looking for development, a school that will develop him like a big man,” Sparks said. “Khem’s mentality is that he wants to play the sport and if he makes the (NBA) he wants to be good. Khem wants to learn as much as he can. He wants a school that’s going to run him up and down the court. He doesn’t want to play center, he wants to be a four.”

Birch averaged 4.4 points and five rebounds through 10 games. He was the highest-ranked player Jamie Dixon recruited during his tenure at Pitt.
