My first thought upon hearing the shocking report that Prince Fielder will sign with the Detroit Tigers was not really about Fielder himself. Prince is awesome, and I like the destination for him statistically. However, this news does affect another area of my rankings: the top overall spot.
I think we have a new No. 1 fantasy baseball player for 2012. And no, it's not Prince Fielder.
I was pretty much on the fence about new Los Angeles Angels first baseman Albert Pujols versus Tigers incumbent Miguel Cabrera for the top spot on draft day in the first place. And now? Well, adding a potential 40-homer bat to Detroit's lineup is all I need to see, whether Fielder hits in front of Cabrera or after him. Miguel Cabrera is the top player now.
