Ellsbury first 30-30 in Red Sox history

&#8226 Boston Red Sox outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury smacked three home runs Sunday, giving him 31 on the season to go with 103 RBIs and 38 stolen bases. He's the first 30-30 player in Red Sox history, and ranks second on ESPN's Player Rater, behind only Matt Kemp. Look for both Ellsbury and Kemp in the top 10 for 2012 drafts.

&#8226 Baltimore Orioles left-hander Brian Matusz struggled again Sunday, allowing six runs over five innings at Detroit. Matusz, a 20th-round pick in ESPN average live drafts (No. 52 starting pitcher), finished his season with an atrocious 10.69 ERA and 2.11 WHIP in 12 starts. My advice: Ignore his injury filled 2011 season, because a healthy Matusz is a 2012 sleeper.

&#8226 Colorado Rockies catcher Chris Iannetta homered and knocked in five runs Sunday, participating in a 19-run outburst. The other Rockies with big performances -- Kevin Kouzmanoff, Ty Wigginton, Thomas Field -- aren't brimming with bright fantasy futures, but Iannetta is a catcher with power and on-base skills (.370 OBP) and is solid for deep leagues.

&#8226 Nice work by Washington Nationals left-hander Ross Detwiler, as he held the Braves to four hits in six shutout innings Sunday. Earlier in the week, Detwiler held the Phillies scoreless in 7 1/3 innings. Detwiler made his big league debut in 2007, at 21, but he's finally breaking out now. He'll be a late bargain in 2012 drafts, as fantasy owners flock to his harder-throwing rotation colleagues.

&#8226 Kansas City Royals right-hander Luis Mendoza beat the Chicago White Sox Sunday, his second win of the week since being called up from the minors. Mendoza allowed one earned run in each outing. A 27-year-old journeyman, Mendoza posed a 2.18 ERA at Triple-A Omaha, and it's possible, though not likely, he could be a late bloomer.

&#8226 Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks had three hits in four at-bats Sunday, scoring his first runs in two weeks. Weeks, hitting .208 in September since returning from a severely sprained ankle in July, should be safe for those in MLB postseason leagues, and he's a top-100 option for 2012 drafts.
